Brandon Tatum is an African-American who was once a member of the police force in Tucson, Arizona. This puts him at a very unique vantage point when it comes to the protests. He decided to speak his mind about the protests and it did not take long for his words to go viral. The protests and riots that have been taking place since the death of George Floyd are weighing heavily on his mind.
We cannot imagine the conflicted feelings that he is experiencing at the moment. It is commendable that he would even be able to compose himself at a time like this. “I’ve got a question for you protesters out there,” the video begins. Once we get to the heart of his concerns, it is hard to ignore them. Even the most staunch leftists would have to admit that he has a point.
He wants to know what they have accomplished with the destruction and property theft. While there is at least some small connection to the protests when it comes to these people, the real burning question was delivered to the social media activists who won’t even bother to come outside. Tatum asked what all of the folks who simply posted a black box on their Instagram page were actually doing to help the cause.
Let’s face the facts here. There is a wide range of white wannabe activists who don’t do a single thing outside of their social media feeds. They may post the right trendy activist image on their Instagram page or press send on some flowery tweets but they are not trying to do anything that will benefit the cause.
We are willing to bet that all of the people who did their Instagram posts were not ready to open their wallets for the cause. That’s the measure of true belief. Anyone can sit behind the safety of a smartphone or keyboard indoors and say things that might seem nice to someone who is also disengaged. Tatum is calling these people out and we love it.
Tatum also wants to know how these people plan on helping black people who are being mistreated by the people by destroying the neighborhoods that they live in. Multiple cities around the country are now left to pick up the pieces and move on. Are they going to receive any help from all of the people who were more than happy to take to the streets and start destroying property?
We are going to go out on a huge limb and say no. The killing of David Dorn has also drawn Tatum’s ire. It is easy to see why the slaying of a 77-year-old retired police chief would upset him. The man was simply trying to put a stop to the madness. He lost his life trying to protect a pawn shop that was in the process of being looted. Dorn did not arrive on the scene because he was asked to.
As Tatum explains, this sort of police work remains in the person’s spirit, even after they have retired. A police officer is not able to forget who they truly are just because they take the uniform off. They are going to protect the community as best they can. The video concluded with some more parting shots for the white liberals who have taken to the streets and behaved in a foolish manner under the pretense of standing up for black rights.
He does not buy into the idea of white privilege, either. Tatum wants white people who are perpetuating this idea to realize that they are not being honest with themselves. He just wants people to start operating with some common sense and stop acting like white people are destined to have a better life than a black person.
