In Early March 2020 I watched a very interesting documentary with this description:
Mysteries of the Missing – Atlantis: The Lost Evidence; Education (2017) Atlantis is one of the most famous disappearances of all time. Episode 2 Original Air Date 02-09-17 Rated 14+ (PG).
Here are some of the details given in the show; however the above website is more comprehensive.
Plato left 51 very specific details of Atlantis in his writings including:
- Island (ancient Greek word Nesos used by Plato)
- Shorelines
- Destroyed in 1 day
- The capital has a central hill surrounded by rings of land and water
- Powerful maritime city
- Quote: “Roofed docks cut into red, black and white bedrock”
- Elephants
- Rectangular plain
- High mountains meeting the ocean like a theater
- 6 miles to the coast
- Canals
- Naval base in a natural harbor
- Atlantis was at war with Athens (warlike)
- Flora
- Protection from Northerly winds
- Not in Europe or Asia
- Metals
The show reviews Santorini, south of Greece in the Mediterranean, as a candidate for Atlantis, but it meets under half of Plato’s criteria. The volcano Thera blew up 3,600 years ago on Santorini and pushed 14 cubic miles of dust and pumice into the atmosphere wiping out Santorini and its Minoan civilization. There were no elephants or specific bedrock there. Next the show eliminates Crete as a candidate – it was wiped out by the tsunami caused by Thera.
So with no computer candidates left Gough and/or Hubner look back at Plato’s clues and discover there were several different words for ‘island’ in ancient Greek and the word ‘Nesos’ meant: an island or a patch of land enclosed by boundaries. Upon adjusting the software, the output gave one candidate: Souss Massa – a 99% hit.
Video shows Souss Massa with ancient ruins all around. Drones fly and give aerial photography showing a broad circular ridge around the central hill. There is no water, but dried out river beds are found circling the hill. It is 6 miles to the coast. At the Atlantic Ocean coast they find ‘roofed docks cut into red, black and white bedrock’ – a natural harbor and caves and the high mountains meeting the ocean like a theater.
Not sure if there is a connection, but the Massai ethnic group lives in Kenya and Tanzania today. And in the US, Massau is the Hopi Great Spirit. The Hopi’s tell of asking permission from Massau, then settling the land and being given sacred stone tablets, religious instruction, warnings and prophecies by Massau.
