Lately there has been a lot of talk in the Fake News Media regarding Artificial Intelligence; allow me to offer you another perspective as a computer programmer, student of wisdom, and ontology.
I do not think Artificial Intelligence is anything man needs to develop. I think we would be better served if we focused on Natural Intelligence, it’s in short supply.
My first impression as a computer programmer is that Artificial Intelligence is an Oxymoron (mutely exclusive terms). As artificial means unnatural; we need to identify what we mean by “Intelligent”. To a narcissist vanity and selfishness are Intelligent. To a psychopath greed and selfishness are Intelligent. So, each of us have a unique relationship with Intelligence. Psychopaths frequently receive high IQ scores. Do IQ tests consider Empathy and Compassion, or simply Memory and Processing ability? Computers have excellent memory and processing, but no empathy or compassion. I don’t see a parasite that destroys or kills its host as intelligent.
If we start with the perspective of low intelligence like psychopathy… We have had Artificial Intelligence since the first Computer Viruses. A Computer Virus can reproduce, destroy data (the life’s blood of a computer), until the virus kills its host (the computer). Not very intelligent, but it is artificial and it behaves like a psychopath with no consideration for anything but it’s self (function). Therefore “Artificial Intelligence” as a psychopath has been a reality since the 1990s.
The trouble with achieving higher forms of Artificial Intelligence lays in the fact that we “Intelligent” humans have senses and abilities which are not recognized by the scientific community. What some refer to as a Sixth Sense. However there are more then Six. A Computer program can only have access to these Senses once they are recognized and made accessible to with technology (not possible). Man does not have the ability to give soul to a machine. Empathy, Compassion, Love, etc are not man’s to give to a machine and therefore it is not possible to synthesize Natural Intelligence in a machine of man. All man can hope to synthesize are Computer psychopaths. Artificial Intelligence is an Oxymoron (not possible).
If you think I am out of line with my comparison to psychopathy, consider this: A robot has recently received Citizenship in Saudi Arabia. This robot is capable of making facial expressions which communicate emotions. The robot has no emotions; it is simply imitating human expressions of emotion. This is precisely what a psychopath devoid of emotions does. The Robot is imitating psychopathic behavior, not human behavior.
The real problem man or science should explore is Natural Intelligence, because I see far too much Artificial Intelligence in man and humanity! What I mean by that is an Attorney is not a student of Law; he is not educated in Law. An Attorney is a student of Legal Procedure; a “Procedure” is what a Computer follows. The Computer has no Intelligence, only Procedure. When a man like an Attorney abandons Law for Legal Procedure he loses his humanity and becomes no better than a Computer Virus (psychopath). Attorneys following Legal Procedure become an infection in society. As they are blind to the destruction they are causing to the host (humanity), they will ultimately kill the humanity they claim they are serving.
Old Joke – “What is 100 Attorneys at the bottom of the Ocean? (A good start)”
You see society knows the truth, but we fail to abandon Procedure.
Attorneys are not the only profession following Procedure. The practice of following Procedure has spread far and wide. Educators, Doctors, Judges, Bankers, Scientists, Politicians, Police, Soldiers, etc have all become Students (victims) of Artificial Intelligence (Procedures).
