Nothing I write is intended to discourage your Spiritual pursuits, but your “teachers” are lying to you. Not all are aware they are lying.
Jesus called the Pharisees “Hypocrites”; a liar is a hypocrite. Nicodemus (Pharisee) had limited knowledge of Spirituality (borne again).
Being “born again” is not as complicated as Religionists make it out to be. Born of the flesh is born into materialism. Being “born again” is recognizing that materialism is not the whole truth. Knowing that “doing unto others as you would have them do unto you” is more important than a pound of flesh (materialism / greed). Materialism pays dividends in gold, at the expense of your sanity. Spirituality pays dividends in the quality of life and your mental health. Deception, and ignorance are poison for the mind. Wisdom is the result of experience. No one gets wisdom from a book.
Tao Te Ching (The Way of Wisdom in Action) is what Jesus was teaching (The Way is 81 Parables written 500 BC).
